The phoenix incorporates notions of life, rebirth and renewal. If you are contemplating a phoenix bird tattoo you need to take these values into account. Also, a phoenix bird of fire tattoo must be of sufficient size to make an impact. This is a magnificent bird and deserves respect - size is important. You simply can't represent the idea of eternal life with a small tattoo!

A Phoenix Tattoo Design is Hot!
By Tom Moore

Phoenix Tattoo DesignWith so many tattoo designs around it can be somewhat bewildering trying to figure out which one is right for you. There are many factors to take into account but, essentially, the most important factor is decoding the meaning behind the tattoo design. Ask yourself, "What does this design represent?" It's true that some tattoos are loads of fun and don't really have any significance - nothing wrong with that! But a phoenix tattoo doesn't really fall into that category. A phoenix tattoo design has a definite purpose and significance which you need to know about before going ahead and getting this tattoo design inked.

The Magnificent Phoenix

So who or what is the phoenix? Well, this mythological bird is extremely mystical and enigmatic. Because of this, it is a very popular motif in tattoo artwork around the world. This bird's origins are believed to lie in the ancient country of Ethiopia in Africa. The bird's name is connected with 'fire' and the color 'red.'

Amongst other ideas, the phoenix incorporates notions of life, rebirth and renewal. This is a great symbol for 'starting again' or 'washing away the old.' If you are contemplating a phoenix bird tattoo you need to take these values into account. Also, a phoenix bird of fire tattoo must be of sufficient size to make an impact. This is a magnificent bird and deserves respect - size is important. You simply can't represent the idea of eternal life and rebirth with a small tattoo!

phoenixFinding a Suitable Design

If you have made up your mind to get a phoenix tattoo design, the next stage in your planning should involve research into finding a suitable design. There are hundreds (if not thousands) of tattoo galleries, both online and offline, from which you can choose your perfect phoenix tattoo. These galleries are usually full of color and are a pleasant way to while away the time as you make up your mind. However, try not to get too distracted by the dozens of alternative designs available. Stick to the phoenix design!

Vitally important in your final decision should be the color and size; you have to like the design, but it also has to coordinate and blend and all these elements must match if your design is to be esthetically pleasing. A balance is, therefore, needed: not too many similar or contrasting colors. Your tattoo will be with you for a long, long time so make sure it doesn't look awkward or out of place.

Finally, once you've decided on a phoenix tattoo design, you should spend a good deal of time with your chosen tattoo artist and explain exactly what it is that you are looking for and maybe even suggest a few alternate phoenix designs. Who knows, between you both you may come up with a new 'hybrid' phoenix design. It's a big decision, so take your time and 'live' with the various designs for a period of time before finally having it inked.

Later heal before they'd realized that they were on to something. The news probably spread really fast and prompted the invention. It is rumored that the first tattoos were of the sun or flames in honor of the sun gods.

Individuality and Style Expressed Through Body Art

If you’ve ever seen the program "Inked" you’ll realize that tattoo design has become more popular than ever before. What is the genesis behind this new craze?

Author: Craig Thornburrow

Currently, there are hundreds of thousands of online sites wherein you can pick and choose a tattoo design, print it out and take it to one of many tattoo parlors in your area. Incredibly, there are well over 40 million individuals who have tattoos. What is it about tattoos that are so appealing?

The history of tattoos dates as far back as the Stone Age. However, you may recall that in 1991, a 5300 year-old frozen mummy was discovered in the Otztal Alps and aptly named "The Iceman." Upon examination, he was found to have 58 tattoos.

In other cultures around the world from the Maori in New Zealand to the Ainu in Japan, the art of tattooing – although its origin can be traced back to the fourth millennium and earlier – still exists today and has morphed into a more contemporary art form.

While the Mendhi is a temporary tattoo made primarily of henna, it is nonetheless a popular form of tattooing that originated in India. The difference between this form and traditional tattoos is that the Mendhi does not penetrate the skin, but the patterns applied to the skin last for a period of three to four weeks.

Why have tattoo designs become so popular? It has become a symbol of individuality. Considering there are well over 40 million individuals who have tattoos, it seems clear that the reasons are uniquely their own. As seen on the program "Inked," people decide to have tattoos commemorating loss of a loved one, or utilize symbols denoting their specific culture or religion, or a tattoo design that represents a sentiment they feel aptly describes their own convictions.

An indication of just how popular tattoo designs have become is evidenced by the more than thirty thousand tattoo parlors available today. As state earlier, there are close to 200,000 online sites that offer a tattoo design in every genre imaginable. While there is certainly no shortage of tattoo designs, there are occasions when a person may outline a specific design or idea that he or she cannot find on the internet.

Tattoo designs can range from the more simple design such as a small butterfly to the more intricate and larger images such as a caricature. Over the last several years, tattooing has been used as a method by which permanent makeup can be applied. For example, some women may have their lips or eyebrows tattooed with a color of their choice.

There is no doubt that the art of tattooing has become a more acceptable form of self-expression. To this end, the tattoo design will continue to emerge and become perfected by those artists whose vision and creativity serve to enhance the scope of this ancient art form into the next millennium.

First Tattoo Guide by Liza Remington

Lots of people get a tattoo on impulse without thinking the process through. That is not always a good idea for something so permanent. Tattoos are excellent expressions of special times in your life or special people. Just think it through and decide if the sentiment for today is one that you honestly want to carry around for a lifetime.

Butterfly TattooCustom tattoos are probably more expensive than stock tattoos available at your local tattoo parlor. Your artist will need to spend time on the creation or I should say recreation of your design. Not every design that comes into the parlor is feasible. Your artist will take the spirit of your art piece and turn it into something that will be aesthetically pleasing for your body. Adding to the price of your custom tattoo will be the time your artist spends developing. Your artist will also spend more time with doing the actual tattoo because it is probably not something they have done before. Simple designs or stock designs found in your tattoo parlor will be applied quicker and will take your artist less time to create. Simple is cheaper. Custom may tell your story better.

Black Shading Tattoo of a Guitar with Angel WingsYour next step is to decide whether you want color or black with intense shading. Color is going to be more costly because your artist will need to change equipment more often to add the colors. It will also take more time to complete. Color does make your tattoo one of a kind. The variety of colors to choose from will make your tattoo stand out from the crowd. On the other hand black and shaded tattoos can also hold their own. Black and shaded tattoos can be very classic in appearance. A black and shaded tattoo can be very distinct because of the high contrast between natural skin color and the black ink.

Your next decision is to select your real estate. Where on your body will your tattoo be placed. You need to decide whether this tattoo is supposed to be visible for the public or just for you. Womens TattooYou must decide if your lifestyle will fit with public placement of your tattoo. Careers and family perceptions of your tattoo can seriously affect your life. You are free to place that tattoo where you choose. The freedom of choice is definitely up to you but you must decide if you can live with the perceptions from others.

Tattoos placed in areas where the skin is just going to hurt more than in areas where there is more muscle or fat. Decide on your pain tolerance level before you start the process. Your artist may be able to deliver a few small skin tests to determine if your pain tolerance for that particular location is acceptable. Areas with thinner skin include ankles, head, chest and lower back. Areas where pain may not be as intense include arms, legs, shoulders and your rear end.
